“God calls the church in worship to join the mission of Jesus Christ in service to the world. As it participates in that mission the church is called to worship God in Jesus Christ, who reigns over the world.” – Book of Order, the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

The Mission Committee of the Presbyterian Congregation supports many areas throughout the greater church, both within the denomination and internationally. Contributions are made through the Benevolence Fund and various appeals during the church year.

A few examples follow to show how members are using their time talents and treasure to further the mission of Jesus Christ in our town region, nation and world. In these actions we led not only by the Mission Committee, but also by the women (Presbyterian Women), children and youth (Christian Education Committee) and the Board of Deacons.

Local Mission

  • The church provides space to community groups such as AA, Parents Anonymous and the Girl Scouts.

  • Members deliver Meals on Wheels and Volunteer in the Thrift Shop.

  • Members bring food to worship each month for the Middletown Interfaith Food Pantry.

  • We support an adopted family with clothing, food, birthday and Christmas gifts.

Regional Mission

  • By supporting Presbyterian Children’s Village in Rosemount and Philadelphia, PA, we help “…promote the healing of the spirits children, families and communities broken by violence, neglect, addiction, poverty, mental illness racism, and other societal problems.”

  • By supporting the Fruitbelt Farmworker Christian Ministry, we take part in providing poor immigrant farmer workers and their families working in the Tri-County with experience of Christ’s love.

National and Global Mission

  • Our congregation is a  “covenant church “ of Bread for the World, a nationwide Christian movement that seeks justice for the world’s hungry people by lobbying our nation’s decision makers.

  • We invest in Oikocredit which empowers poor people with loans.

We participate in all the special offering of the PC (USA), thus contributing to minority education, worldwide disaster relief, children and youth at risk and peacemaking ministries.
